THE YEAR 2013 is a special year for Lithuania and Ireland. For the first half of the year, Ireland held the Presidency of the European Union and from July this honour was passed on to Lithuania. Yet another connection was created between Lithuania and Ireland; another bridge was built.
We, Lithuanians living in Ireland, enjoy our lives here, we build our careers and skills here, our children gain their education. Representing Lithuanian Association in Ireland we would like to commemorate this special year with a dedicated project to celebrate this. This project is like a symbolic bridge connecting our both countries, like a grateful gesture. To Lithuania – because it’s our homeland, and to Ireland – because it welcomes us so graciously to make Ireland feel like our home.
THE MAIN goals of the Project:
• Strengthening social connections at a non-governmental level between Ireland and Lithuania.
• Fundraising for Lithuanian and Irish charitable organizations.
• Promotion of social responsibility and social activities among Lithuanians living in Ireland.
THE FUNDS raised during the events will be given to these organizations in Lithuania and Ireland: Down Syndrome Association in Laois; St. Paul Special School, Dublin; Organization for People with Down Syndrome and Their Custodians Association, Lithuania; Association Different Child for Autistic Children, Lithuania.
We chose those organizations because we wish to create awareness about key issues effective the lives of people with intellectual disabilities and issues related to still existing problem of social exclusions of such people in society.
