08/02/2014 Training for Maamturks Challenge Week 5 -

Michael calculated Saturdays walk

30 Km with 1360m height gain

Hi everybody,

Leaders letter.

Given the expected weather and other circumstances, I do NOT plan to tackle Lug tomorrow.

Instead, I want to have another go at last week's Plan B, in the hope that we will stay out long enough to get a good, hard, challenging, tough, wrenching, difficult but otherwise thoroughly enjoyable full day on the hills, thereby avoiding any disappointment that may enfold in Lansdowne Road..... or next week when I would to be back on schedule!

So, the plan is to go back to the same car parking place we used last week, at Oldbridge just beyond the Scout Centre. We will go up Scarr, as we did last week, but hopefully will be in conditions (and in a condition) to walk over towards Kanturk and down to the Laragh-Sally Gap Road instead of coming directly back down to the Laragh-Oldbridge road as we did last week. From there, all going well, we will head up to Mullaghcleevaun East Top and on to Duff, possibly Gravale and maybe even further, before returning the same route: this will avoid river crossings.

As with last week, I will be in Roundwood for 7:30 - the plan is to be on the hill no later than 8:00
