ROLE:

Under the direction of the Service Manager, the Heavy Duty Mechanic will perform skilled mechanical maintenance in overhauling and repairing diesel and gasoline heavy and light trucks and trailers; perform preventative inspections and maintenance of company vehicles and equipment.

¬¬¬Pay scale: $ 27.00 - $ 35.00 per hour depending on experience, plus company benefits.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Receives general supervision from the Service Manager and higher-level supervisory staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF ROLE:

• Diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects in a variety of heavy and light trucks and trailers at the shop and in the field.
• Repairs, replaces and adjusts hydraulic, air and power disc brake systems.
• Performs preventative maintenance inspections and repair work, including rewiring, changing oil and filters, service and check brakes, lights and other systems.
• Overhauls, repairs and adjusts drive shafts, universal joints, rear axle seals and related systems.
• Fabricates parts using gas and arc welding equipment as necessary.
• Maintains records of supplies and parts used, keeps time and material records.
• Services and repairs company yard equipment when required.
• Fully complies with the Company’s policies and procedures and Safety and Compliance Program.
• Performs other tasks as assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Grade 12 graduation.
• Journeyman Certification as a Heavy Equipment Technician (or equivalent)
• Two(2) or more years of experience in the manufacturing, repair, modification, and certification of tanker trailer and truck equipment.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Ability to interpret complex blueprints, drawings, and instructions.
• Full knowledge of all the acts, legislation, regulations, standards, and generally accepted work practices relating the business of Custom Vacuum Services Ltd.
• Knowledge of employee’s obligations under OH&S.
• Must be able to speak English Fluently.

CAPABILITIES:

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, exercise good judgment and common sense, and conduct themselves in a professional manner.
• Demonstrated good interpersonal and oral communication skills.
• Must be physically fit and of reasonable strength and endurance to perform the duties required in an industrial manufacturing environment. From time to time must be capable of working outside in all weather conditions.
• Must be aware of personal limitations and request assistance when unfamiliar situations arise.
• Ability to analyze and solve complex technical problems (troubleshooting).
• May be required to work shift work or overtime and from time to time may be required to travel with overnight stays.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Environmental Conditions:
Shop/field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to heat and confined spaces; and inclement weather conditions.

Physical Conditions:
Essential functions (may) require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing, walking, bending, or stooping for prolonged periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting; and operating motorized vehicles.
