The journeyman body technician is responsible for producing quality workmanship on medium and heavy collision jobs using the following processes:


1. Thoroughly review the work order to ensure that all repairs are indentified on the work order. Vehicle is disassembled; parts are removed for an accurate re-inspection of all hidden and additional work. Outer sheet metal panels, engine, interior panels, trim, bumper covers and fascias are removed as necessary to access all damage, especially to the inner structure. Inform repair planner of any hidden damage.


2. Final sheet metal parts are removed or metal is worked as necessary by reforming and reshaping using shaping fillers and grinding.


3. Engine, radiator, drive train, suspension and interior parts are removed to gain access to damaged areas.


4. Unibody is dimensioned; structural repairs are planned and calculated. Vehicle is set up on unibody repair equipment.


5. Structural members and unibody are pulled to correct the dimensional inaccuracies caused by the collision. Separate pulls are required to correct length, height, sway and twist.


6. Areas of unibody where installations of parts are to take place are treated to provide a solid surface where corrosion cannot take place.


7. After pulling unibody, panels are welded, metal worked, caulked, and then vehicle is checked for dimensional accuracy.


8. After final painting of welded areas of unistructure has taken place engine, drive train, suspension, and engine compartment accessories are re-installed.

9. Body and metal work is inspected.


10. After outer sheet metal is fitted, featheredged, sanded, and all outer surfaces are painstakingly finished all interior panels, trim moldings, mirrors, and accessories are remounted


11. Sublet work such as pin striping or upholstery work is completed.


12. Alignment and air-conditioning recharging is performed.


13. Windshield and windshield trim moldings are installed.


14. Door panels and final interior trim is re-installed.


15. Electrical wiring is reconnected, computer modules and sensors are re-attached and all lights and applicable systems are checked.


The journeyman body technician is also responsible for the following:

1. Maintain working area in a clean and safe environment

2. Continuously strive to improve efficiency in work area

3. Participate in process improvement meetings and training programs

4. Maintain a good work attitude and cooperate with managers and fellow employees in a positive spirit of teamwork

5. Use personal protective equipment as required

6. Advise management of any potentially hazardous conditions or any damaged tool/equipment
